D-Day

Mention the word D-Day to most anyone and they immediately think of June 6, 1944.

However, to military personnel,  the term D-Day (meaning Departure Day) applies to any military operation from the biggest invasion to the smallest patrol. There have been literally thousands of D-Days in US military history.
"If one of the many corrupt...county-seat contests must be taken by way of illustration, the choice of Howard County, Kansas, is ideal." Dr. Everett Dick, The Sod-House Frontier, 1854-1890.
"One of the most expensive county-seat wars in terms of time and money lost..." Dr. Homer E Socolofsky, KSU
