Madge Inez (Crowell) Rankin, 96, formerly of Longton, Kansas, died July 30, 2008 at the Good Samaritan Society in Winfield, Kansas. 

Madge was born January 24, 1912 on a farm north of Longton, Kansas to Bruce Henry and Oma (Flesher) Crowell.  She moved with her family to Parker, South Dakota at an early age and attended school in the Parker community.  She lived in Mississippi before returning to Kansas where she lived in the Oak Valley area. 

On May 25, 1934, she married Horace Cline "Pony" Rankin at Elk City, Kansas, and to this union was born a daughter, Elaine, and two sons, Roger and Richard.  The Rankins operated a ranch near Elk City for several years before moving to a ranch north of Busby., 

Her husband, Pony, preceded her in death on March 21, 1961.  Madge moved into Longton in 1966 and made her home there until entering Good Samaritan in 2005.  She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and served many years as a 4-H leader.  Madge attended the Christian Community Church of Longton. 

She is survived by her sons, Roger Rankin and Richard Rankin, both of Longton, Kansas; her daughter, Elaine Rankin of Winfield, Kansas; her brothr, Glen Crowell of Independence, Kansas; her sister, Ruth Ballnger of Humboldt, Kansas; eight grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 4, 2008, at the Christian Community Church of Longton, Kansas.  Pastors Dave Sanchez and Mike Dershem will officiate.  Burial will be in Longton Cemetery.

Memorials have been esablished with the Longton Historical Society, Longton Christian Community Church, the Winfield Public Library, and the Cowley County Humane Society.  Contributions may be left with Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard, Kansas.

My sympathies go to Roger, Richard and Elaine.  Madge and Pony were a great couple.  I remember they were always at the Longton Fair and working hard.
