AM I IRISH????

One of my favorite holidays is St. Patrick's Day.  I love the leprechauns, the shamrocks, the gold at the end of the rainbow, but am I enough Irish to claim this as my holiday.  Three of my great grandparents were Irish.  I have a headache from trying to figure just how much Irish blood I can claim.  Could one of you specialists tell me, please?

Wilma I am with you!!  I love St. Patrick's Day.  This year my daughter, who is in preschool, made a Leprechaun trap.  It was so much fun, and when they went to school yesterday the little person left candy for them.  She just loved it.  I am going to try to make green eggs for the kids for breakfast, at the daycare, and green punch.  I can't wait!!!

I agree that on St. Patrick's Day everyone is Irish.

But technically, you have 2 parents, 4 grandparents and 8 great-grandparents. That makes you 3/8ths Irish or 37.5% Irish.

But, one has to ask what makes one Irish?  Where they were born, or how they were raised?  

For example, my Mom was born in Blackwell, while my grandparents were visiting my great-grandparents.  Mom's parents lived in Howard and she was raised in Howard from infancy. Does that make her an Okie or a Kansan?

Although my parents were both raised in Howard, I was born in California and have always thought of myself as a Californian.

As far as I know, I don't have a drop of Irish blood in me, lot's of German and English and some Scottish, but I will proudly be wearin' Green on St. Patrick's.

PS Does anyone serve your kids Lucky Charms on St. Patrick's, or make Leprechaun footprints on your counter?
