dolls

These dolls were bought at the DAV in Wichita. They had no clothes and were dirty. I brought them home and clean them up. I crocheted new outfits for them. These are not only dolls I brought home. I have Barbie dolls that I will make outfits also. I am using patterns that is at least 40 to 50 years old or older. You wouldn't believe how many dolls you can get into a plastic bag especially when the bag full cost only $2.00.

How nice for you to have rescued these dolls!!! They look great! Your crocheting skills are very good--you have alot of artistic skills. Keep up the good work!

Being a doll collector, I appreciate the care and time this takes. Some of those dolls really get grubby, and you have done a very nice job of restoration! Keep up the good work!

Being diagnosed with RA, the Dr. suggest that I keep busy and crocheting is one of the handcraft I enjoy doing. On the dolls I used at least two hooks and at least 3-4 patterns to make the outfits. With the Barbie dolls, I am planning to crochet vintage dresses using photographs. I don't have little ones that I can give these dolls to. The youngest great niece if given a choice between a doll or a truck she would choose the truck.

Maybe you could use this as a yearly project to provide dolls to the Christmas Angel Tree project in Howard. Hospitals and children's homes would also be a great avenue for your handiwork.

Don't forget the nursing homes. They often have games and a need for 'prizes'. I think dolls would be welcome as well as stuffed animals.

That is a thought. When my mother was in the nursing home, first daughter made her a crocheted baby doll. Mother had Alzheimer's and in her thoughts she was still taking care of the babies that had taken up most of her life. She loved that doll. We had to replace it once when it became so worn it was ready to be retired.

I helped out with Bingo at Elk Manor a few times, and dolls were a popular choice from the prize table as well as stuffed animals. Some chose these to give as gifts to family members, as well as to keep for themselves. Of course fruit was also a favorite!
