Hey Bonnie, how neat was that. Happy New Year greetings from coast to coast. I'll bet there aren't too many forums that did it!

Happy New Years from here in Longton, Kansas
I just finished watching the Rose Bowl Parade and
I almost wish I could be there in that crowd.

If I were there I would want to be right on the outset of the
parade........and good weather...LOL......I want it all if I go!!!!

Just hanging the rest of the day. Hopefully this cold wind will turn
itself off and maybe I  will walk later. Not to bad with the cabin fever,
the sun is out and that always makes me feel good.

Be well and enjoy the rest of the day.
Hugs and God bless
aoyp
Today, I want to make a difference.
Here I am Lord, use me!

Hi to all! The sun is out at last and the Mummers finally started mumming down the street in usual "Two Street" fashion.  ;D  It's 53 here...perfect for the parade. Now, Mrs. Six, it's been a pleasure to know you and thank you for the kind comments. I am hardly the brightest bulb in the chandelier, but I can fake it pretty well ! ;D. As for Kermit, he is just fine. I hear from him off line and he is busy with some of his own websites.  I don't know if we can entice him back or not. My New Year's resolutions include trying not to be so much of a blabbermouth, trying hard not to hurt anyone's feelings and practicing my typing. I'm getting a little better at typing, but being totally self taught, well, what can I say. I promise to keep up with my house work better and I'll try to keep up with the weeding in my flower beds. (The seed catalogs are arriving and I'm drooling over everything I want to try.) I'll continue with the fire company of course, I have several CPR classes to teach later in the month. I want to improve my computer skills. I desperately need to lose weight and the forum does help with that. I snack less if I get on here to see what my forum family is doing. I'm going to go undecorate my tree now and do the Mummers' Strut around the family room. See ya!

My, how ambitious you are. I need to make all the same resolutions, but I'm gonna give myself a break. Then if I get any of them right, I'm ahead, right?   So happy to know that Kermit is okay, I was afraisd he was having a medical problem. Busy is acceptable! I love the seed catalogs also, and try to contain my enthusiasm. Pretty soon I have more than I have time to care for or can afford to water. Mummers would freeze here today; it's 30 degrees with a strong north wind. Brrr----!!! Later!

Good aftrnoon on this New Year's Day!    I love this kind of a day.  I've "lazied" around all morning!  We actually started watching T. V. about 7:00 a.m., as that's a good time to see the news people going around and interviewing all of the people involved with the Rose parade, the bands, etc.  It's hard to imagine how much work goes into making one of their floats, all covered with flowers, or something associated with plant life.  I went to the parade once, it was just great!  My only problem was the length of lines for the "port-a-pots."  But, you know it's going to be that way, so, we just do the best we can do.  One year not long ago we went to Pasadena with our Church group on the day after the parade, and they have all of the floats parked in a huge parking lot and people can walk around and view the floats.  Each float has people assigned to it, who will be happy to tell you all about the building of the float, etc.  Many of the animated floats are "in action," it was really nice.  The flowers continue looking good for several days after the parade.

Yes, Diane, we "covered" the "Happy New Year" last night from Sea to Shining Sea!  Escondido hosts a "First Night" celebration on New Year's Eve, and from what I've heard and read about it, last night was very successful.  The weather was beautiful.  This is  an alcohol free family affair, and it's a very popular event.

I will go back to doing nothing, and enjoy what's left of the day!

My mother and I watched the Rose Bowl parade then watch three episodes of "That's Entertainment" with all the musicals and stars that were in them.  I especially like watching Gene Kelly, Fred Alstair and Judy Garland.  There were several movies that I not heard of but would like to watch them.

Roma Jean Turner

Lazy day here as well.  It was a good day for Missouri.  One of our local college's (MSU), headed the Rose Bowl Parade and the University won the Cotton Bowl, so I had a good excuse for laying on the couch all day watching TV.  I kept thinking about how good the food would be at my friends open house and all the people I would see that I hadn't seen for several months.  However, none of that was enough to get me into the shower and out of the house.  Hope I am more motivated tomorrow!!

Bonnie, I always wondered what became of the floats after the parade. That is so nice that people can see them later. Eventually I suppose they take them all apart again. I wonder what they do with the kazillion wilted flowers? Compost them?

W. Gray

One of the "Dirty Jobs" episodes on the Discovery Channel had Mike Rowe, the host, tearing into some of the floats from a past year to dismantle them. I cannot recall if anything was composted but the vegetation was rather ripe.
