     This first picture is of Longton.  Established Feb. 18, 1870 and named after Longton, England, is the only "Longton" in the U.S.A.  The first main street was Fifth St.   This picture was taken in the early 1900's from Sixth St. looking north on Kansas Ave. (or the main street).  Peak population at that time was 1880.
     The other three pictures are scanned from the Handbook of Elk and Chautauqua counties of Kansas.  (1886)
