Richard V. Shipman, 72, of Caney, died Wednesday at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan.

Due to the weather, graveside services have been changed from Tuesday to Thursday at 2 p.m. in Grace Lawn Cemetery at Howard, with the Rev. Mike Graham of Harry Hynes Hospice officiating.  Potts Chapel of Independence is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Shipman was born Sept. 8, 1935 in Longton to Delber and Mary (Baker) Shipman.  He graduated from Howard High School in 1955.

In 1959 he entered the U. S. Army and served 14 months in Korea until his discharge in 1961.  He then served two years in the U. S. Army Reserves.

Mr. Shipman lived in Longton until moving to Howard in 1955.  He moved to Caney in 1958.

He worked for Gibbons Lumber in Howard, and later for the Rock Island and the Caney lumber yards.  He also worked as a janitor in the Caney schools.

Survivors include in a sister, Marjorie Mumford, Bend, Ore.; and a brother, Byron Shipman, Wichita.
