Another Brain Riddle

Ok....we had some fun with the last one.
Oil your brain waves up and have a go at this one.
( No cookies if you guess this one though.. )

HINT:  This is a very common household item.

I came out of China, but I'm seen on a Turk
I work when I rest and I rest when I work.
You will see me in Russia...You will see me in Gaul;
But if you don't look you won't see me at all!
I sparkle!  I twinkle!  I'm shiny!  I'm black!
I am seen from the front and I'm seen from the back!
I never need oiling; I work well in the cold.
I'm not a young upstart, I'm two thousand years old!
At social occasions I have lots of fun;
I've even been seen on a hot, 5-K run!
I can be flat, or I can be sharp;
I can be on a Tuba, but never a Harp.
When men land on Mars I won't be abused;
I'll be part of their gear and I'll still be used.
No stranger am I to the pioneer plight;
I was done in the morning, then undone at night.
You may find me costly.  You may find me cheap;
You will find me with Humans, but never with Sheep.
Not mobile when used, but I run up and down;
Over in England...I run all around!
I can be docile, or I can have flair;
And I can be seen in a march militaire.
I'm as big as a dollar, or as small as a nickel;
I'm as brown as a nut, or as green as a pickle.
There are some folks who don't even use me at all,
After I'm bought from a store on the mall.
From trees I have come and I've come from the sea;
I know you quite well and I know you know me.
I can be put into games, I suppose;
In parts of the world I'm a stranger to clothes.
It is inappropriate when I am lost, or misplaced;
You can use one like me for saving your grace.
I can't play the Banjo.  I can't play the Fiddle...
