Christmas programs used to be a very popular activity, both in  the schools and churches. Was there ever a special program that you remember? My father used to tell about the time he was playing Santa Claus in the one room school house Christmas program. He said he couldn't see out of the mask and fell off the stage, much to his chagrin. He also told of blowing out the Christmas tree fire during another program. He was tallest in the school, so was standing at the back of the group near the tree when one of the candles ignited a branch. He was quite the hero for awhile!

The only one I remember was in 4th or 5th grade, we did a Christmas play.  I think it was called something like "The Littlest Angel".  All I really remember is that my Mom had to make my costume and she made it from pink flannel.  I used it for a night-gown for years after that.  I think I have the script packed away somewhere. ;D

I remember the Christmas programs very well, through grade and high school.  I always felt like I must be the ugly kid, my hair wasn't long enough, my clothes weren't good enough, all sorts of things.  This was because I was never selected to be an angel or Mary or any other female part in the program.  Oh, how I wanted to be one of the angels and wear the long white dress with silver wings and a halo. I was always in the "background" singing.  About 15 years ago I was visiting with the lady who was my music teacher from grade 2 till I graduated highschool.  During the course of the conversation I told her how disappointed I was as a child that I never got to be a part of any Christmas pagant.  She grinned and revealed her secret for selections.  Those that "could not" carry a tune got those parts.  She said my alto voice was badly needed in the Choir because without a good choir, the pagant would not be what it was.  Made me feel better now, but wish she had told me then.  :-\  Guess that was a compliment, huh?

I got a good chuckle out of that one Flo, it just points out how wide the generation gap really is. It is so easy to give a child the wrong impression about their value and place in the world. Heck, it is that way with adults also!! Merry Christmas to you and yours!

I was in a Christmas Program when I was a first grader.  I only remember that I was an angel and that my Grandparents showed up unexpectedly.  They were living in California and had drove to Houston for Christmas.  I saw them wandering the halls after the program. I told my parents that they were there and they just thought I was seeing things because there were so many people there.  But nope .... There they were!  It was a neat Christmas that year!

How sweet you are!  I bet that was a thrill to see your grandparents.  Thanks for posting the picture.
