The heart warming words of GOVERMENT OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE seem to have been discarded, and also disregarded.  When I was in high school (granted ---many, many years go ) it was wonderfu to study goverment, and learn of all the good that the Congress and Senate had to power to do for the good of the American people.

And now -- it sems to be only for the good of the ones that want something for themselves not for our country.  We need first and foremost to take care of our own, but somehow on the "big screen" we the people take a back seat to all the other countries and aid to our country is put on the back burner.  We have so many that need our help - long before the other countries that are receiving it.

"nuff said from me.  for this day, anyway.

I've always said that I bet Bill, Hillary and I could set in a corner booth at the old neighborhood bar, knock down a few beers and have quite an enjoyable evening.  But what does that have to do with me wanting them back in the White House? They will be draggin back a whole bunch of baggage, resentments, scores to settle, etc.  that I was tired of before they ever got out the first time.

As first lady I feel she was sticking her nose in areas that were way beyond the expected boundaries of her position, soI hate to think what she would get into with the power of the presidency behind her.  Retroactive taxes........as a self employed business woman, it was nightmare for me and many of us when her husband did that. I won't vote for anyone that I think will do that again.

I want to see someone who seems to actually think through a problem or issue and look for a solution beyond raising all our taxes as fast as they can and then feeling the need to micromanage all of our lives.  Even though I have always been a registered democrat, hell will probably freeze over before I vote for one in this election.  I'll be lucky if I have any friends left by the time of the election, because I am just saying what I think, no holds barred.

My sweet quiet little girl --- Never would stand up for herself -- always timid.

God Love her ---one never had to worry where she stood on an issue.

I have to tell this (forgive me. Tressy)
When she was in high school -- well, really all through her school years, two of her good friends would get in a "tiff" and Teresa would get in the fray and try to make peace between them and THEN they would both get mad at Teresa, and she would be odd man out.  Lordy - what a sad time it was when she came home from school.

I believe the President of The United States of America does have some power.

The ability to veto is a very powerful tool that can be used or abused by any president.  Even a weak president can surround himself (or herself ::) with wise council and do a good job.
One of the things that bothers me is our lack of secure, reliable intelligence and trustworthy information on which to base decisions about the problems in Iraq. The WMD situation...I don't think anyone purposefully lied to us, they were fed bad information. If you remember, after 911 there was a 6 month period of threats and saber rattling before we went to Iraq. They had plenty of time to move the stuff somewhere else so it wouldn't be found. Maybe they did, maybe they didn't. Then there's the huge cost to the war. I remember very well the promise that their oil would pay the U.S. for our war expenses. It was to have cost us nothing (except lives.) There are some groups and some people who are are becoming obscenely wealthy because of the war. They protect each other's backs and oil is at the bottom of it all.  I really feel sorry for whomever inherits all this after the election. Then there's Iran, Pakistan, Korea, China and Mexico..... The american dollar is weak and we are staring recession in the face. We are in a sad position right now. It is so complicated, I don't know how anyone can understand all the complexities of it.  Sometimes it seems the average American got lost in the shuffle.

I find it telling that no candidates are addressing the high gas prices. I have to wonder if they are afraid to offend the big oil industry? And maybe lose out on that big money support?

AN ANALYSIS WORTH READING:

by Dick Morris, former political advisor to President Bill Clinton

If you happen to see the Bill Clinton five minute TV ad for Hillary in which he introduces the commercial by saying that he wants to share some things we may not know about Hillary's background .. . .beware . . .

As I was there for most of their presidency and know them better than just about anyone, I offer a few corrections;

Bill says: "In law school Hillary worked on legal services for the poor."
The facts are: Hillary's main extra-curricular activity in law school was helping the Black Panthers, on trial in Connecticut for torturing and killing a federal agent. She went to court every day as part of a law student monitoring committee trying to spot civil rights violations and develop grounds for appeal.

Bill says: "Hillary spent a year after graduation working on a children's rights project for poor kids."
The facts are: Hillary interned with Bob Truehaft, the head of the California Communist Party. She met Bob when he represented the Panthers and traveled all the way to San Francisco to take an internship with him.

Bill says: "Hillary could have written her own job ticket, but she turned down all the lucrative job offers."
The facts are: She flunked the DC bar exam, yes, flunked, it is a matter of record, and only passed the Arkansas bar. She had no job offers in Arkansas, none, and only got hired by the University of Arkansas Law School at Fayetteville because Bill was already teaching there. She did not join the prestigious Rose Law Firm until Bill became Arkansas Attorney General and was made a partner only after he was elected Arkansas Governor.

Bill says: "President Carter appointed Hillary to the Legal Services Board of Directors and she became its chairman."
The facts are: The appointment was in exchange for Bill's support for Carter in his 1980 primary against Ted Kennedy. Hillary then became chairman in a coup in which she won a majority away from Carter's choice to be chairman.

Bill says: "She served on the board of the Arkansas Children's Hospital."
The facts are: Yes she did. But her main board activity, not mentioned by Bill, was to sit on the Wal-mart board of directors, for a "substantial" fee. She was silent about their labor and health care practices.

Bill says: "Hillary didn't succeed at getting health care for all Americans in 1994 but she kept working at it and helped to create the Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP) that provides five million children with health insurance."

The facts are: Hillary had nothing to do with creating CHIP. It was included in the budget deal between Clinton and Republican Majority Leader Senator Trent Lott. I know; I helped to negotiate the deal. The money came half from the budget deal and half from the Attorney Generals' tobacco settlement. Hillary had nothing to do with either source of funds.

Bill says: "Hillary was the face of America all over the world."
The facts are: Her visits were part of a program to get her out of town so that Bill would not appear weak by feeding stories that Hillary was running the White House. Her visits abroad were entirely touristic and symbolic and there was no substantive diplomacy on any of them.

Bill says: "Hillary was an excellent Senator who kept fighting for children's and women's issues."
The facts are: Other than totally meaningless legislation like changing the names on courthouses and post offices, she has passed only four substantive pieces of legislation. One set up a national park in Puerto Rico. A second provided respite care for family members helping their relatives through Alzheimer's or other conditions. And two were routine bills to aid 911 victims and responders which were sponsored by the entire NY delegation. Presently she is trying to have the US memorialize the Woodstock fiasco of 40 years ago.

Here is what bothers me more than anything else about Hillary Clinton. She has done everything possible to weaken the President and our country (that's you and me!) when it comes to the war on terror.

That was an excellent article, Jo.  I hadn't seen that before.  "The spin stops here!"
