Roma Jean Turner

     John H. Fickle was born at Abbington, VA, on February 20, 1872, and, when he was yet only three yea4rs of age, came to Cowley county, Kansas, with his parents.  After living there for a short time, the Fickle family moved to Howard, Kansas, and it was on a farm near there that John Fickle spent his boyhood days and received his education.  In 1923, several years after his marriage to Miss Hettie Baird of Moline, Kansas, Mr. and Mrs. Fickle came to Independence.  To this union one son was born.
     Mr. Fickle has been employed as a teamster since his residence here and has many friends in this city.  Although he was not actively associated with any of the local churches, he was of good Christian faith and was ready to anser the call of his Maker.  He has been in failing health for the past several years and has been bedfast since the last part of June.  Leakage of the heart was given as the cause of his death.
     Mr. Fickle leaves to mourn their loss, his wife, his son, Raymond; a sister, Mrs. W.G. DeVoe, of Howard, Kansas; two brothers, Emmett and Richard, of Howard, and Chas. of this city, and his father, Austin Fickle of Howard.  His mother passed away in 1910-Independence Daily Reporter.
     The remains were brought to Howard on Friday at 2:30p.m . funeral services were held at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. DeVoe, conducted by Rev. W. G. McKinsey, pastor of the Christain Church, assisted by Mrs. Belle Yates.  Hymns were sung by a male quartette, and the burial was in  Grace Lawn cemetery,---Howard Citizen.
