Miss Virginia Lee Mitchell, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Phonce L.  Mitchell, became the bride of Guy Morgan Denton, Second Lieutenant, U.S.A.F., son of Mr. and Mrs. Guy V. Denton, at three o'clock Sunday afternoon, April 19, 1953, at the First Methodist Church in Howard. Rev. A. E. Allmon of Emporia, grandfather of the bride performed the double ring ceremony.

The altar was decorated with arrangements of pink and white gladioli, flanked with greenery and twin candelabra holding burning tapers for the setting for the bridal party.

Miss Marjorie Kling, organist, played a prelude of nuptial music, and accompanied Miss Mildred Messer of Winfield, who sang "I Love You Truly" and "I'll Walk Beside You."  The traditional Lohengrin and Mendelsson bridal marches were used.

Miss Paula Forsyth and Miss Jackie Doughty, as taper lighters wore formal gowns of yellow net, with floral head dresses.

The radiant bride wore a floor length gown of white tulle and satin, featuring a high rounded neckline, with yoke of tulle, and a tiered skirt decorated with lilies of the valley.  The long sleeves tapered to points over the hands.  Her finger-tip length veil of illusion cascaded from a gardenia tiera.  She carried a bridal bouquet of white roses and lilies of the valley, with white satin streamers.  Her only ornament was a strand of pearls, a gift of the groom.  Rev. Mitchell gave is daughter in marriage.

Miss Romaine Mitchell, sister of the bride, who was maid of honor; Mrs. Charles Clark of Kansas City, Kansas, sister of the groom, who was matron of honor, and Miss Elizabeth Rader, bridesmaid, wore identical pink net formals, fashioned on similiar lines as the bride.  The attendants carried butterfly corsages of baby pink carnations and gardenias, and each wore a head band of rose buds and a single strand of pearls.

The groom was attended by Second Lieutenant Louis H. Derthick, Jr., U.S.A.F., of Portland, Oregon.  They were attired in their Air Force uniforms.

Mr. Ardean Wood of Fort Worth, Texas, Mr. Gerald Smith of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Mr. Charles Clark of Kansas City, Kansas, served as ushers and each wore a white boutonniere.

For her daughter's wedding, Mrs. Mitchell chose a beige suite with brown accessories, with which she wore and orchid corsage.  The bridegrooms mother wore a pink suit with navy accessories, and an orchid corsage.

The three grandmothers of the bridal couple, Mrs. A.E. Allmon of Emporia, Mrs. G.W.Denton of Blackwell, Oklahoma and Mrs. Annie Morgan of Howard, wore orchids.

Miss Darla Denton of Blackwell, Oklahoma, presided at the guestbook.

Following the wedding ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents for the families and close friends of the bridal party.  The lace covered table was centered with a three-tiered wedding cake decorated with pink and white, and topped with a miniature bride and groom.  Two-place candelabra held lighted tapers. Mrs. Allen Forsyth served punch and Mrs. Charles Jackson of Emporia, aunt of the bride served the wedding cake. Mrs. Leon Garison and Mrs. Carl Perkins assisted with the reception. 

The bride and groom left for an unannounced destination for a short honeymoon.   For traveling they wore suits of blue-gray, fashioned from the identical material.  The bride wore navy accessories and a pink rosebud corsage.  The groom wore a pink boutonniere.

The bride was graduated from Howard high school with the Class of 1951 and attended Southwestern College at Winfield, where she was a music major.  She has been active in local church and social circles, giving freely of her outstanding music talents.

The groom who was graduated from Howard high school with the Class of 1949, attended Oklahoma A & M College at Stillwater, Oklahoma, and later entered military service.  He was recently commissioned as a second lieutenant and received his wings in the United States Airforce.  He will receive further training as a jet pilot at Moody AFB, Valdosta, Georgia, where the couple will be stationed for the present.

The many friends of this fine young couple extend congratulations and best wishes for a happy and prosperous wedded life.
