   Arthur Loyal "Pete" Baumgartel, 87, of the Cave Springs community east of Howard, died Sunday, February 8, 1998, at Medicallodge in Douglass.  He was born September 7, 1910, at Cave Springs, the son of Lu F. and Elsie Gertrude (Crismas) Baumgartel.
   Baumgartel attended Cave Springs and Union Valley rural schools.  He operated the family farm near Cave Springs.  After retiring from the farm he lived a few years in Howard before entering Medicalodge of Douglass in March of 1994.
   He was a former member of the Grange Organization of Kansas.
   Baumgartel is survived by one brother Dale Baumgartel of Howard; and several nieces and nephews.
   Graveside services were held February 10 at the Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard with Rev. Marty DeWitt of the First Baptist Church of Howard Officiating.
   A memorial has been established with the First Baptist Church of Howard and contributions may be left with the funeral home.  Zimmerman Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
