Payton or Edwards family in Howard 1880

I received this request for a look-up in the Elk County History Book.  Didn't find anything there,
nor did I find anything in the 1875 or 1885 Census listings.  If anyone recognizes these two
families, please respond to jbarnard.  Thanks,  Dan Durbin

Other helpful information: I have located Charles Francis Edwards living
with stepfather George Payton in Howard, Elk, Kansas in the 1880 census.
I have been unable to locate anything else about this family.  In
particular, I would like to find death/burial record for Charles's mother
Martha who had been married to George Payton and she had obviously died
by the time of the 1880 census when he is remarried to a woman named
Barbary.   I do not know how long they lived there before or after this
census record.
Charles was born in Keokuk, Iowa in 1869.
Any reference to this family in this book would be appreciated.
