Lillian LaVelle Anderson passed away on Friday, May 11, 2007 at the Comfort Care Home in Wichita.  She was 89 years of age, a resident of Wichita and formerly of Howard.

LaVelle, was she was known, was born on Oct. 14, 1917 at Grenola to Charles Joseph and Mollie Tom (Sweet) Carter.  She lived her early years in the Grenola area and graduated from Grenola High School.

On July 25, 1937, she married Benjamin Clark Anderson at the First United Presbyterian Church in Wichita.  LaVelle made a home for her family in Kansas City, Mo., and was employed for several years by Dr. C. Richard Friedley of Raytown, Mo.  After Clark and LaVelle moved to Howard, she was employed at the Elk County Abstract Office and served as treasurer of the city of Howard.  Clark preceded her in death on Aug. 23, 2004.

She was a life member of Oskaloosa Chapter #62 Order of the EAstern Star in Oskaloosa, Kan., and was a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood, Chapter AF in Augusta.  She was also a member of the United Methodist Church in Howard.

She is survived by her daughter, Sonya M. Sayler and her husband Larry D. of Wichita; three grandchildren, Captain Aaron Clark Sayler and his wife Amy of Dayton, Ohio, The Rev. Ethan D. Sayler and his wife Christi of Cherokee, Iowa and Amanda E. Forbes and her husband Petty Officer 1st Class Sean P. Forbes of Yigo, Guam; eleven great grandchildren, Anderson Hall Sayler, Delaney Elisabeth Sayler, Ryan Clark Sayler, Christopher Lake Sayler, Nicholas James Sayler and Natalie Marin Sayler all of Dayton, Ohio; Hannah Elizabeth Sayler, Caleb Benjamin Sayler and Noah James Sayler oll of Cherokee, Iowa and Allejandria Madisen Forbes and Kellen Xavior Forbes of Yigo, Guam and her sister, Lacille Fern Best of Brenola.  She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents a brother Charles Henderson Carter and a sister Betty Jean Best.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 15 at the Greenlawn cemetery in Grenola with her grandson, The Rev. Ethan D. Sayler of the Memorial Presbyterian Church in Cherokee, Iowa officiating.  Doug Stark of Comfort Care Homes Spoke at the service.  Larry Sayler played a violin selection of "All The Way My Savior Leads Me".

A memorial has been established with the Greenlawn Cemetery at Grenola.  Contributions may be left with the funeral home.  The fuenral arrangements are being made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.
