John Wesley Cranford passed away on Monday, May 7, 2007 at the V. A. Medical FAcility in Wichita.  He was 85 years of age and a long time resident of the Howard and Moline area.  Memorial services are pending with the Zimmerman Funeral Home of Howard.

John Wesley Cranford passed away on Monday, May 7, 2007 at the V. A. Medical Facility in Wichita.  He was 85 years of age and a long time resident of the Howard and Moline area.

John was born on Feb. 12, 1922 at Lula, Okla., to Early Daughtry and Gertrude (Alread) Cranford.  He attended school and lived his early years in the Lula community.

On Nov. 10, 1943, he married Donnie B. Palmer at Stonewall, Okla.  John served in the United States Army during World War II and moved to Elk County in the early 1950's.
John was a heavy equipment operator during most of his life.

In 1968, John and Donnie moved to Ulysses, Kansas where they owned and operated a restaurant at Moscow for several years.  They returned to the Howard community in the late 1970's where they operated Donnie's Deli before moving to Missouri.  In the mid-1990's, John and Donnie moved to make their home in Moline.  Donnie preceded him in death on April 6, 2003.

He was a member of the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member of the Moline Christian Church.

He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Cranford of Lincoln, Neb., Carlus Cranford of Chanute and Jeric Cranford of Council Grove; his daughter, Malinda Lee of Howard; his brothers, Jim Cranford of Manhattan and Floyd Cranford of Lula, Okla., six grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Memorial graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 21, at the Lula Cemetery in Lula, Okla.  Cremation has taken place.

A memorial has been established with the Howard Twilight Manor in Howard.  Contributions may be left with the funeral home.  The funeral arrangements are being made with the Zimmerman Funeral Home.
