Howard Courant
April 23, 1914

A very pretty home wedding took place at the home of the brides parents east of town, on Wednesday, April 22nd, when Miss Bertie Anderson and Mr. Leslie Wisner were united in marriage by the Rev. T. A. Nichols.

The invitations read "high noon" and promptly at the hour, and to the wedding march played by Miss Opal Mason, Miss Anderson and Mr. Wisner, preceded by Miss Katherine Kling and Mr. Rech, came in and took their places under a white and pink bower, and there, made the ever old, and at the same time ever new, promises to each other.  The bride wore white and carried bride's roses and the bride's maid wore a gown of pink.

After the ceremony the wedding party repaired to the dining room, where an abundant feast had been prepared, and no one evidenced any failure of appetite because of excitement due to the occasion.

Accompanied by some of the friends to Severy, Mr. and Mrs. Wisner left for a short trip to Missouri.

The following relatives and friends were present:  Mr. and Mrs. Sant. Anderson, Misses Edith and Olive Anderson, Mr.and Mrs. B. M. Wisner, Mrs. Wisner, grandmother of the groom, Rev. and Mrs. T. A. Nichols, Mrs. M. E. Ayres, Miss Eva Ayres, Mr. A.T. Ayres, Mr. and Mrs.Chas. Kling, Mrs. Vice and Mr. Russell Vice.

Leslie and Eertie are my grandparents. The house he built for her is still standing here in Howard.

QuoteThe following relatives and friends were present:  Mr. and Mrs. Sant. Anderson
Sant. is, if my memory is accurate - Santford Ulysses Grant Anderson.

I always thought that was a neat name.

Quoteno one evidenced any failure of appetite because of excitement due to the occasion..
We've talked about the wording of old news articles before - this is a prime example.  :)

I wondered what the Sant. stood for.  I can vaguely recall Bertie Wisner, as my grandmother used to speak of her.  Bertie and Leslie lived across the street south of the old grade school building, where Mr. Perkins lives now. (I think that's who it is).  Don and I were trying to recall yesterday, what occupation Leslie Wisner was in, but we seem to be getting too forgetful to remember.

Leslie had a furniture store second building South of the Howard National Bank. I remember when I was very young maybe in the 2nd or 3rd grade, my sister Mary Myrna, who was 2 years older than me,  and I wanted to buy our parents a new floor lamp. Well we didn't have the money but I was working after school for Mrs Perrin in her studio and Mary Myrna was working at something, we went in and told Leslie Wisner what we wanted to do. He told us he would hold the lamp and we could make payments. Every week we made a small payment, well when it got close to Christmas we didn't have it paid for and just knew we weren't going to be able to give it to the folks for Chridtmas. Mr Wisner told us that we had been so good about making our payments  that we could take the lamp amd keep paying our payments after Christmas. Leslie use to tell that story to people when I was around and he would laugh and say that he had taught us a good lesson.

The Elk County Furniture Store is still standing, kind of, just south of Howard State Bank.
