Charley Franklin Hawkins of Wichita, Kansas died on April 13, 2007.  Services were held on Tuesday, April 17, 2007 at Lakeview Funeral Home Chapel in Wichita.  Pastor Tom Scott of Countryside Christian Church conducted the funeral service.  Burial was in Wichita.

Charley Franklin Hawkins was born January 11, 1913 to Harvey and Anna (Schul) Hawkins on the farm northeast of Grenola, Kansas.   Charley attended the Independent Grade School about a mile from his home.  Charley chose not to attend high school but to work as a farm hand around the area.  Charley grew up attending the Grenola Christian Church.  In his adult life he was an elder in the church for many years.  Charley, his father, and brothers were strong supporters of the church. While working for Roy Snodgrass, he met Lucy Hawkins, daughter of George and Stacy Hawkins of Grenola.  They were married on May 18, 1938.  To this union were born three sons:  Dean Paul Hawkins, Robert Lee Hawkins, and Franklin Leroy Hawkins.

While working for Snodgrass they lived on the bank of the Caney River northwest of Grenola.  He soon accepted a job on the Criger Ranch outside of Howard, Kansas and worked there for approximately 6 years.  Accepting a job from John Bacus of Grenola Elevator, he moved his family to the Grenola area.  Charley worked for the elevator for 13 years. Charley and Lucy lived at different placed before moving their family to the farm northeast of Grenola on which he was raised.  In 1961, Charley accepted a job with the Grenola School system as a custodian.

Their family raised, Charley and Lucy moved to Wichita in 1967.  They became members of Countryside Christian Church.  Charley's work in the Wichita area was mostly custodial and retired as such in 1979 from the Kansas Turnpike Authority.  After Charley's official retirement, he worked quite extensively doing yard work for people.

Charley is survived by sons; Dean and wife Faye, Frank and wife Judy of Wichita,Kansas and Bob and wife Mary of Haysville, Kansas; five grandchildren, and 14 great grandchildren.  Pansy Franks and Virginia Wilson are nieces.  Steve White of Neodesha, Kansas is a nephew.

Charley was preceded in death by his wife, Lucy on April 6, 2006.  He was also preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, Lee, Lester, and Glenn.
