CRISMAS, Mabel Edith - b. April 6, 1876 - d. September 10, 1961

Mabel Edith Crismas, daughter of James W. Crismas and Melissa Jane Aul Crismas, was born on a farm eight miles east of Howard, April 6, 1876, and departed this life at a Sedan nursing home, September 10, 1961, at the age of 86 years, five months and four days.

She was one of a family of eight children, of which there were six girls and two boys.  One brother, Clinton, two sisters, Olive and Clementine, and her father and mother preceded her in death.  Mabel, with her sisters and brother were pupils at the Pleasant Hill school, which she attended until she graduated from the eighth grade.

She loved to care for the sick and spent many months and even years so occupied.  When her parents moved to Howard in November, 1911, she came with them and tenderly cared for her father during his last years of illness.  In March of 1943, she moved with her mother to the home which has been hers for eigtheen years.  Here she cared for her mother until her death, which occured in October of 1943.

Mabel loved the out of doors and was never happier than when she was working in the yard with her flowers or in her garden.  She never married, but took a special interest in her sisters and her brother, and loved her nieces and her hephews.  She was a good neighbor and a genuine friend to those who needed her sympathy and her interest.

There remains to mourn her going three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Isaacs of Medford, Oklahoma; Mrs. Gertie Baumgartel and Mrs. Blanche Burris of Howard, and her brother, C. M. Crismas, also of Howard; several nieces and nephews, and friends.

Funeral services were held in the chapel of the Spurrier-Watt Funeral Home, Howard, at 2:00 p.m., September 14, 1961, with the Rev. Dean Brown of the local Baptist church officiating. Two song were sung by a duo composed of Mrs. Dean Brown and Mrs. Robert Boardman, with Mrs. Boardman at the piano.  Casket bearers were Clifford Beaumont, Charles Light, Otto Webster, Harry Webster, Leslie Anderson and Holly Miller.  Concluding services and interment were in Grace Lawn cemetery, Howard, Kansas
