Wayne Eugene Keast, 86, of Howard, died Friday at Lakepoint Nursing Center in Augusta.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church in Howard.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard.  Interment will be at Grace Lawn Cemetery.

Memorials are suggested to the Howard United Methodist church or the American Legion Carter-Rader Post 149, and donations may be left with the funeral home.

Mr. Keast was born April 2, 1921 in Pawnee County, Kan., the son of Fred and Katie (Brandt) Keast.  He earned a bachelor's degree from Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.  He served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II, earning the rank of second Lieutenant.

He married Irene Thompson on July 6, 1947 at First United Methodist Church in Wichita.  She survives at the home.

Mr. Keast was a farmer and also served as an educator for beterans returning from the war, teaching agricultural education.  He retired from farming in 1990.

He was a member of the United Methodist Church, American Legion Carter-Rader Post 149.  In college, he joined the Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.  He also served on the Watershed Board, REA board, the Extension Council, 4-H executive council, school board, and the First National Bank of Howard board of directors.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Keast is survived by two sons, Mark Keast, South Korea, and Thomas Keast, Elk Falls; a daughter Annette Barnaby, Valley Center; a sister, Bernice Lott, Glenwood, Colo.; and four grandchildren.

Wayne Eugene Keast, age 86, of Howard passed away on Friday, April 20, 2007 at Lakepoint Nursing Center in Augusta.

Wayne was born on April 2, 1921 in Pawnee County, Kan., to Fred and katie (Brandt) Keast.  He earned a bachelors degree from Kansas State College of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.  Wayne served in the United States Army Air Corps during World War II earning the rank of Second Lieutenant.  On July 6, 1947 Wayne married Irene Thompson at the First United Methodist Church in Wichita.

Wayne was a farmer and he also served as an educator for veterans returning from the war, teaching them agricultural education.  WAyne was a member of the Howard United Methodist Church and the American Legion Carter-Rader Post 149 of Howard.  While in college he joined the Alpha Gamma Rho Fraternity.  he also served on the Watershed Board, REA board, Extension Council, 4-H Executive Council, School Board, and the Board of Directors for the First National Bank of Howard.  After retiring from the farm in 1990, Wayne and Irene loved to spend time traveling in their RV.

Wayne is survived by his wfie Irene of the home, two sons; Mark Keast currently living in South Korea and Thomas Keast of Elk Falls, one daughter Annette Barnaby of Valley Center, Kan., one sister Bernice Lott of Glenwood, Colo., 4 grandchildren; Ryan Keast, Michelle Nachtrab, Kate and Josh Barnaby.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, April 24 at the Howard United Methodist Church with Dr. Paul Lee and Rev. Gary Parsons officiating.  Susie Perkins was the organist with LeRoy Jordan singing "Wind Beneath My Wings" and "Amazing Grace".  The casket bearers were Josh Barnaby, Richard Clark, Ryan Keast, Andy Nachtrab, David Perkins and Adam Piland.  The honorary casket bearers were Bert Blackard, Jerry Hubbell, Glenn Miller, Bill Perkins, Don Perkins, Jim Perkins, Lynn Perkins and Dwight Winn.  Military funeral honors and interment were conducted by Carter-Rader Post #149 at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard.
