Howard Courant
July 19, 1928

B. T. McKirahan and Geo. Garrett came near motoring into a Santa Fe train at a crossing north of Howard, last Saturday afternoon.  The did not see or hear the train, for a hedge obscured the view.  They slammed on their brakes and stopped their car just as the engine shot past them, but the steps of the passenger car tore the bumper and fender off their auto.  It was about the closest call ever heard of.
