THOMPSON FUNERAL SET FOR THURSDAY
FAMED KANSAS EDITOR IS CLAIMED BY DEATH AT HOWARD

 Howard, Kan. Oct 2,  -  Funeral services for Thomas E. Thompson, beloved Kansas editor who died at his home here yesterday, will be here Thursday at 2:30 p. m.
 Mr. Thompson, who was known as "Polk Daniels" for his writings under that name in his paper, the Howard Courant, was 75 years old. He and Mrs. Daniels had published the paper for nearly 54 years.
 Although ill for several months, he had continued to carry on his writing and attend to business. He became critically illl yesterday and died at noon.
   Long Years as Editor
 Mr. Thompson's son Clad H. Thompson, Starbeams editor for the Kansas City Star, "broke in" under his father and wrote under the name of "Pip Daniels," which likewise has clung to him.
 Born May 23, 1860, at Mt. Pleasant, Ia. Mr. Thompson came to Kansas as a youth and began work on the Elk Count Ledger, Elk Falls, when 15. He bought the Howard Courant in 1881.  He married miss Maude Cummings the following year and the two worked together in putting out paper.
 In 1931, the couple celebrated their fiftieth year as editors and publishers of the paper. Many Kansas newspaper editors joined in the celebration.
 He is survived only by his wife and son.
