Charles Collins Forgeot was born in Lyons, France, April 12, 1837, and departed this life May 31, 1917, in Elk Falls, Kansas, aged 80 years, 1 month and 19 days.

He came to the United States at the age of 18 years and made his home with an uncle in New York for a while.  Later he went to Texas.  At the opening of the Civil War he enlisted in the 1st Kentucky Light artillery and served until the close of the war.  Later he went to Berry, Wisconsin, where he lived several years.

He was married to Miss Margaret Florence Cutler.  To this union were born four children, two dying in infancy.  Two sons remain and were present at the funeral services, Emil Forgeot of Minneapolis, Missesota; and George Gorgeot of Boston, Massachusetts.  Their mother died two years ago.  (??????)

Mr. Forgeot was married to Mrs. Margaret Shafer in Nebraska.  They came to Elk Falls about the year 1891.  Mrs. Forgeot died August 1, 1902.  Later Mr. Forgeot married Mrs. Susan Smith who passed away recently March 12, 1917.

Mr. Forgeot was stricken with paralysis last fall and although much improved he was confined to his home.  About ten days before his death he grew worse.  His suffering was so intense that death came as a welcome release.  Mr. Forgeot was a quiet, law abiding, upright citizen and won many friends.  For many years he was identified with Rawlins Post G.A. R.

In a number of homes a picture taken many years ago shows twenty-one of the "boys" of these only nine remain.  Fifty-eight of the comrades found the Elk Falls cemetery as their final resting place and the U. S. flag marks their graves year by year.  A few more will be added to their number for the final roll call.

The funeral took place from the family residence Saturday, June 2, at 4 p.m., conducted by Newton Hill. Music arranged by Miss Ruth Williams.

Thirteen comrades were present at the service and many friends.
