Isaac L. Smith was born in Clark County, Illinois, January 25th, 1855, and departed this life August 24, 1916, aged 61 years and 7 months.  He was married to Martha Slusher January 4, 1876, she passed away August 10, 1916, just two weeks previous to his death.  To this union two children were born, the son Simon Smith, died February 22, 1904; one daughter Mrs. Jim Hebb, survives, at whose home he was living at the time of his death.  He leaves two sisters, Mrs. Jim Street of Moline, and Mrs. Louise Madlem and one brother Solomon Smith, both of Greenup, Illinois.

Mr. Smith moved to Howard in 1883 where he resided until the death of his wife.  He was a devoted father and husband, and was a good neighbor and friend to all and will be greatly missed by many relatives and friends.

The funeral services were held at the old home August 25th, at 10 a.m., conducted by Rev. M. P. Dixon of the Methodist church.  Interment in Grace Lawn Cemetery.
