William H. Queen was born November 7th, 1846 near Madison, Bartholomew county, Indiana, and died August 3rd, 1916, at Wichita, Kansas, aged 69 years, 7 months and 29 days.

May 16th, 1864 he enlisted as a 100 day soldier, at the age of 19 years, in Company C. 47th Iowa Regiment Volunteer Infantry, serving to the end of the term of his enlistment when he was honorably discharged.

December 19th, 1872, he was united in marriage to Susan I. Ross, to which union were born two sons, A. H. Queen of Clyde, Kansas and R. W. Queen of Kansas City, Missouri and one daughter Mrs. H. A. Matheney of Unitah, Idaho, these with the wife and mother are all left to mourn his death.  He is also survived by one brother, T. H. Queen of New Virginia, Iowa, his father, mother, two brothers and three sisters having gone on before. With his parents, Mr. Queen moved to Iowa in 1849, from thence to Kansas in 1877 and has resided in this state since this time.

The funeral services were conducted from the First Methodist Episcopal church at Howard, Kansas, August 5th, 1916, by the pastor, Harry E. Crane.  Interment was made in the Grace Lawn cemetery at Howard.
