Virginia Nadine Banning, age 89, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away July 10, 2024 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.  Born August 27, 1934 on the family farm in the Belknap Community in Chautauqua County, Kansas, she was the daughter of Everett Clinton and Eula Maria (Wells) Malone.

Virginia attended the Belknap Grade School from first to eighth grade.  She then went to Moline High School in Moline, Kansas for two years and graduated from Sedan High School in Sedan, Kansas in 1952.  On September 5, 1953, she married William Wesley Banning at the Belknap Church.  As far as anyone knows, theirs was the first wedding in the Belknap Church.  She worked at a little grocery store for awhile and at the Chautauqua County Machine Shop.  In February 1956, she went to work for R. O. Robbins, an attorney in Sedan, working until the fall of 1958.  She stayed at home and was a mother and housewife while her children were young.

In August 1965, she went to work for C.M. William Title Company.  On July 1, 1976, she went into partnership with Louise V. Downing in the Chautauqua County Abstract Company.  The partnership was dissolved on March 31, 1982, and she became the sole owner of the company. 

Virginia and Wes purchased the Malone Family Farm in the Belknap community, residing there for years.  They moved to Howard, Kansas for seven years until moving to Cumbernauld Village in Winfield in 2017.  Wes preceded her in death on October 10, 2017.

Virginia was a member of the Moline United Methodist Church.  She was an avid fan of the Dallas Cowboys and enjoyed sewing, bowling, hunting, baking, playing cards, and playing dominoes.  She also enjoyed counting horses on long drives. 

Her family includes her children, Ricky of Burden, Kansas; Renee and husband, Robin of Guthrie, Oklahoma, Russell and wife, Audra of Winfield, Kansas, and Randall and wife, Dawna of Arkansas City, Kansas; her brothers, Keith, Leslie, and Neil Malone; her sister, Winifred; her eight grandchildren, Heather, Joshua, Kylee, Shelby, Felicia, Randi, Jameslee, and Katy; and her nine great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wes; her three sisters, Edith Bridgewater, Marilyn Widdows, and Margaret Wimberly; and a brother, Ernest Malone.

Funeral services were held on July 18, 2024 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas.  Interment followed at Belknap Cemetery in Chautauqua, County, Kansas.  A memorial has been established in Virginia's name to the American Cancer Society.  Donations may be sent through the funeral home.  Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156 has been entrusted with arrangements.
