Betty Marie Goodnight, age 92, passed peacefully in her sleep on June 25, 2024 near Houston, Texas.  She was born on November 25, 1931 in Wichita, Kansas to Ed and Alice Goodnight.

Most of Betty's early childhood was spent in Chase, Kansas and Howard, Kansas where she enjoyed a very musical family and played the piano, guitar, and even picked up the art of yodeling.  Upon graduating from Howard High School in 1949, Betty chose banking as her profession which provided her the opportunity to live in many areas of the country including Wichita, Kansas, Bangor, Maine, Minneapolis, Minnesota, Denver, Colorado, Dallas, Texas, and finally in Houston, Texas. Wherever Betty lived, she took time to educate herself at local universities including the University of Houston.

Betty is remembered for her remarkable ability to craft amazing letters and correspondence with beautiful penmanship that was beyond reproach.  She was a meticulous records keeper and enjoyed collecting and cataloging historical documents.  Her favorites were documents, books, and pictures about America's founding fathers, the Kennedys, Elvis Presley, John Wayne, Princess Diana, and Disney.

Betty was also a fabulous cook who enjoyed hosting dinner parties for family and friends.  A dinner visit to Betty's home usually included a multi-course home-cooked meal served on proper place settings and would always finish with the most fantastic homemade desserts.  Most of all, Betty loved spending time with family and doting on her nieces and nephews.  She will be remembered by all that knew her as a kind soul with a loving heart who was always quick with a smile for anyone she greeted.

Betty is survived by her sister-in-law, Louise Goodnight; nieces and nephews, Donna Goodnight, Jaque Goodnight and Richard, DeAnne Giesy, Gary Barrett, Bryan Dameron, Chad (Kris) Dameron, and David (Lindsay) Giesy; grand nieces and nephews, Krystal Carlile, Brandi (Davon) Walker, Jesse Dameron, Heather Dameron, Emmalie Giesy, Elisabeth Giesy, Corey (Pam) Barrett, and Zach (Amy) Dameron; great-grandnieces and nephews, Jaysa Wade, Dawsyn Gardner, Devyn (Sage) Lam, Ridley Dameron, Ellie Dameron, Analyvia Palas, and Tucker Crawford; and great-great-grandnephew, Rowan Lam.  Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John "Ed" and Alice Goodnight; her brother, Jack Goodnight; sisters, Darlene (Darrel) Dameron and Joyce (Larry) Giesy; and niece, Karen (Allen) Carlile.

Graveside memorial service will be held on Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at 10:30 a.m. at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
