Frances Jean Elston, age 81, of Pittsburg, Kansas, passed away June 5, 2024 at her residence with her family by her side.  She was born on July 30, 1942 in Binger, Oklahoma to Loren and Ora (Shuffield) Drake.

Frances grew up in Oklahoma along with five siblings which she helped her mother care for after her father and grandfather were killed in an automobile accident.  This created a sense of responsibility in her that followed her throughout her life.  She graduated from Howard High School in Howard, Kansas in 1960 and went on to marry and have children.  She worked several jobs throughout her life to support her family.  She was a marvelous cook, and the neighborhood kids loved to have their supper at her house.  When Frances's health failed, she moved in with her son, Joe, and he helped take care of her until her passing.

Surviving Frances are her children, Joe Burress, LeAnn Burress, and Connie Jacobs; brothers, Ed (Marilyn) Drake, Loren (Betty) Drake, and Bob (Tami) Drake; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; and a great-grandchild on the way.  She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister Ora "Aleta" Huntington; and her brother, Larry Dean Drake.

Funeral services were held at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas on June 15, 2024.  Interment followed at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard.  Memorial contributions can be made to the Howard Fire Department and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 has been entrusted with arrangements.
