Dorothy Lanning-Brewer, age 94, of Howard, Kansas, passed away at her home on April 4, 2024.  She was born August 9, 1929 to Louis and Mary Rose Iaconis in Weed, California. 

Dorothy attended school in Weed and graduated from Weed High School.  In 1951, she married Billy E. Lanning, Sr. in California.  To this union were born five sons.  Billy E. Jr, Richard, and Robert were born in California.  After they moved to Howard, Kansas in 1957, David and Keith were born.

Dorothy worked in several cafes, the Howard Twilight Manor, and at West Elk High School as a cook for 22 years.  After she retired, she continued to help at the Friendship Meals, was on the Howard Library Board, and volunteered at the Howard Library.

In 1974, she and Billy Lanning were divorced.  In 1979, Dorothy married Lowell "Chick" Brewer.  They continued to make their home in Howard.

Dorothy is survived by her sons, Billy E. (Patsy) Lanning, Jr. of Howard, Kansas, Richard "Rick" (Janice) Lanning of Liberal, Kansas, David (Cathy) Lanning of Cherryvale, Kansas, and Keith (Becky) Lanning of Independence, Kansas; her daughter-in-law, Kim Lanning of Eudora, Kansas; 10 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great-grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Lowell Brewer, and her son, Robert Lanning.

Graveside funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, April 13, 2024 at Cresco Cemetery north of Howard, Kansas.  Memorial contributions are suggested to the Howard Friendship Meals and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.  Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 has been entrusted with arrangements.
