Mary Elizabeth Swindler was born in Kokomo, Indiana, April 20, 1861, and departed this life at her home in Howard, Kansas, November 4, 1929, at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 14 days.

She came with her parents to Howard, Kansas, in the year 1878, and has lived in or near Howard ever since that time.

She became a member of the local Christian church early in life and was a faithful member until she passed to her reward.

She was united in marriage to Charles Henry Sprague, July 30, 1882.  To this union one son was born, Clayton Valentine, who has preceded his mother accross the River of Death, departing this life, October 8, 1913.  Mr. Sprague, the husband and father, passed away a few years later, leaving the devoted, loving wife, and mother alone in the world.

She leaves one brother, John W. Swindler, New Albany, Kansas; one sister, Mrs. Calla Abbott, Kansas City, Missouri; eight nephews, two nieces and other relatives, and a host of friends to mourn her departure.

Funeral services were conducted at the home by J. F. Buhalts, minister of the Christian church, Thursday afternoon at 2:30.  Interment in Grace Lawn cemetery.
