Margaret Smith, age 68, formerly of Winfield, Kansas, passed away on October 18, 2023 at Pleasant Valley Manor in Sedan, Kansas.  Born on March 18, 1955 in Winfield, Kansas, she was the daughter of Richard P. and Veda Ovella (Hawkins) Beggs.

Margaret was raised in and received her education in Oxford, Kansas, graduating from Oxford High School in 1973.  She married Brad Smith in 1975. The couple made their home in Winfield and welcomed a daughter.  They later divorced.

Margaret worked for a time as a Respiratory Technician at William Newton Hospital in Winfield.  She later started her career as an Optometry Technician for Dr. Dan Freeman at Freeman Eyecare.  She continued her career in Optometry working for Wal-Mart until retiring in 2015.  She also worked as a waitress at Winfield Country Club for over ten years.

In 2015, Margaret moved to Grenola, Kasnas to be with her daughter's family.  She was a member of the Grenola Christian Church.  She enjoyed doing sketch art and painting and dedicated her time to her much-loved grandchildren.

Her family includes her daughter, Amity (John) Kessinger of Grenola, Kansas; her sister, Marcella (Fred) Schultz of Hutchinson, Kansas; her grandchildren, Noah (Lidia) Kessinger, Jacob Kessinger, Isaac Kessinger, and Micah Rose Kessinger; a great-grandddaughter, Sofia Kessinger; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.  In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Fred Beggs.

Funeral services were held on October 25, 2023 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas. Interment followed at the Oxford Cemetery in Oxford, Kansas.  Memorials have been established in Margaret's name for the Grenola Christian Church and the Cowley County Humane Society.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home.  Online condolences for the family may be left at www.milesfuneralservice.com.  Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156 has been entrusted with arrangements.
