Barbara Jean (Brougher) Gaffney, age 84, of Andover, Kansas, passed away on May 18, 2023.  She was born January 16, 1939 to Fern Walter and Thelma (Hon) Brougher on a farm northwest of Howard, Kansas.

Barbara attended Union Center Rural Grade School and graduated from Howard High School in Howard, Kansas with the Class of 1956.  She attended business school for a short time.  On October 14, 1961, she married Lyle H. Gaffney.  Barbara retired from the Augusta Medical Complex (now Regional) in 1996 as an insurance clerk.  She enjoyed traveling to Nevada, Arizona, and Montana with her husband.

Barbara is survived by her son, Brett (Deanna) Gaffney of Wichita, Kansas and a nephew, Larry Bolt.  She was preceded in death by her parents, Fern and Thelma Brougher; her husband, Lyle Gaffney; her brother, Wayne Brougher; her sister, Betty Bolt; her niece, Sandra Bolt; and her dogs, Mitzi, Spuds, and Lacee. 

Graveside service was held on May 23, 2023 at Elmwood Cemetery in Augusta, Kansas. Memorial donations in her honor may be sent to the Sedgwick County Zoo, 5555 Zoo Boulevard, Wichita, Kansas 67212.  Headley Funeral Chapel of Augusta, Kansas has been entrusted with arrangements.
