Sandra Marie "Sandy" Ball, age 79, of Winfield, Kansas, passed away August 17, 2023 at her home.  She was born on August 4, 1944 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma to Vernon and Pearl (Sweet) Ramsey.  Later, she was lovingly adopted by Cleland and Geneva (Nigh) Wells of Howard, Kansas.

Sandy was raised in Howard and received her education from the Howard Public Schools, graduating with the Class of 1962 of Howard High School.  She married Ron Smith in 1962.  The couple made their home in Howard, and to this union was born their daughter, Rhonda.  The couple later divorced.

In 1965, Sandy was united in marriage to Ervin "Ray" Ball at the Presbyterian Church in Arkansas City, Kansas where the couple made their home.  In 1968, they moved to Auburn, Washington, and in 1979. they returned to Kansas.  Sandy worked at Binney & Smith before starting her career at General Electric.  She remained at GE for many years, retiring as a stockroom clerk. 

Ray passed away on January 6, 2016.  Sandy enjoyed sewing, cooking, painting, and spending time with her grandchildren.

Sandy's family includes her daughter, Sheila (Jamie) Krug of Winfield, Kansas; her brothers, Gary Wells of Bradenton, Florida and Vernon (Jane) Hughes of Coffeyville, Kansas; her sister, Ruth Depew of Shawnee, Kansas and Donna Whetstine of Howard, Kansas; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and many nieces and nephews.  In addition to her parents and husband, Sandy was preceded in death by four children, Terri McBeth, Tracy Morris, Rhonda Andes, and Brian Ball; her brothers, Gary Arndt and Carl Arndt; a grandddaughter, Kaylee Applewhite, and a great-grandson, Dakota Morris.

Memorial services were held on August 21, 2023 at Miles Funeral Service in Winfield, Kansas with a private family interment at Pleasant Valley Cedmetery near Winfield, Kansas.  A memorial has been established in Sandy's name for Cowley County Humane Society.  Contributions kay be made through Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Avenue, Winfield, Kansas 67156 which has been entrusted with arrangements.
