John J. Hunsucker, age 93, of Burden, Kansas, passed away July 10, 2023 at the Kansas Veterans Home in Winfield, Kansas.  Born April 16, 1930 in Sardis, Oklahoma, he was the son of John Wesley and Gracie May (Moreland) Hunsucker.

John was raised in and received his education in Pittsburg County, Oklahoma.  After school, he joined the United States Army and proudly served his country during the Korean War.  His service in the Army took him to Idaho Springs, Colorado where he met Patricia J. Lamb.

John and Patricia were united in marriage on November 23, 1953 in Colorado.  He made his career as a house framer, and the couple made their homes in several towns in Oklahoma and southeast Kansas.  They settled in Burden, Kansas in the early 1990s. 

John was a member of the Burden United Methodist Church.  He enjoyed fishing, hunting, and spending time outdoors.  He was known for his orneriness and telling great stories.

John's family includes his sons, Claude Hunsucker of Wichita, Kansas, Tom Hunsucker of Arkansas City, Kansas, and John (Sheila ) Hunsucker of Douglass, Kansas; his daughters, Linda (Leroy) Bakken of Cherryvale, Kansas, Debbie Pollett of Burden, Kansas, Connie (Curtis) Streit of Wichita, Kansas, Peggy White of Topeka, Kansas, and Mary (Eric) Enderud of Udall, Kansas; his 21 grandchildren; 41 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia on January 2, 2013; his parents; his siblings, Goldie, Idabel, Eva, Charley, Dorsey, Julie, Jimmie, and an infant sister; his three sons, Ronnie, Christopher, and Bobby Hunsucker; a daughter, Kathy Hunsucker; and two grandsons, Johnathan Hunsucker and Jason Bakken.

Graveside funeral services were held on July 14, 2023 at the Elk Falls Cemetery in Elk Falls, Kansas.  A memorial has been established in John's name for the Kansas Veterans Home.  Contributions may be made through the funeral home. Miles Funeral Service, 4001 E. 9th Street, Winfield, Kansas 67156 has been entrusted with arrangements.
