LONGTON--- Chester Allen Vestal, 93, longtime resident of rural Longton, died July 3, 2003, at Mercy Hospital in Independence.

Services will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday at Zimmerman Funeral Home in Howard.  Pastor Wayne Rogers will officiate.  Burial will be in Longton Cemetery.

A memorial has been established with the Independence Bible School. Contributions may be made through the funeral home.

Vestal was born July 31, 1909, in Nashville, Kan., to Iza (Howell) and Nathan Durward Vestal.   The family moved to a farm near Longton in the mid 1910s.  Vestal was on the football team at Longton High School from which he graduated.

On March 18, 1931, he married Faye Leona Phelps in Independence.

A longtime farmer and stockman, he was also a minister and member of the Longton Bible Holiness Church.

Survivors include his wife, Faye Vestal, Longton; a daughter, Carol Ann Wiseman, Decatur, Texas; three brothers, Floyd Vestal, Longton; Bufford Vestal, Independence, and Nathan Vestal, Fredonia; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
