You Know How Longton Loves Rumors; Here is A Good One

A buddy of mine grew up in Longton in the 60's, spent time in the military, lived in Nevada and other western states, then moved back to Elk County. About five years ago he left Longton for Wichita. He and I pass the scuttlebutt once in a while. He still has connections in Nevada, and some in Topeka. Do not ask me how, I do not know, but I believe him.

He is researching a development opportunity here in Longton that he is sure would be successful, as his clubs in Arizona and Nevada were. He is negotiating to purchase the forty acres that Copenhaver's big, old barn sits on. His idea is unique for Elk County, and maybe for Kansas.

His intentions are to extensively refurbish and remodel the barn, then open and operate a members-only nightclub, with nights for gentleman, and other nights for ladies. The services would include higher quality meals, liquor by the drink, a dance floor, a live band, table-top and pole dancing, several common rooms, private card rooms, then quite a few private rooms available by the hour, or all night. The private, membership-only nature protects all of those activities from prying government eyes.

Of course it would have free parking during open hours. It would open for a lunch and drink menu about 11:30, with a dinner menu offered from 5:30 until 10:00. Dancing girls [and guys on ladies night] would go from 5:30 until midnight. He has not elaborated about the costs or expected revenue yet, but says he has some heads going up and down in Topeka.

Given his extensive and successful background, he anticipates substantial revenue. I expect it would put Longton on the map, and would grease quite a few wheels in Longton and Elk County. Stay tuned as this develops. My guess is this will draw more customers than Flint Oak, and many of those customers will have bigger billfolds and purses.
