James Virgil "Jim" Hawkins, Jr., age 85, of Pryor, Oklahoma passed from this life on April 13, 2022 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He was born on June 19,1936 in Piedmont, Kansas, the son of James Virgil and Mary Helen (Stanley) Hawkins.

Jim grew up in Moline, Kansas and graduated from Moline High School.  He was an outstanding athlete, participating in football, basketball, and track. He was united in marriage to Loweta Marie Bell on October 10, 1953.  .From this union were born four chidlren.   

Jim had a successful career within the nuclear power industry while having only a high school education.  In his later years, he moved to Pryor, Oklahoma and truly loved the community.  He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Pryor and was always there to help in any way he could.  He also supported Pryor High School sports and attended sporting events faithfully.

Jim dearly loved his family and looked forward to spending time with them.  He loved to travel and was proud to have visited every state.  He was a loving father and grandfather who leaves behind many wonderful memories for his family and friends to cherish.

Jim is survived by his son, James (Denise) Hawkins of Haughton, Louisiana; his daughters, Carol Matheny of Granbury, Texas and Linda Lafayette of Chesterfield, Virginia; his brother, Bill (Sally) Hawkins of Overland Park, Kansas; his sister, Mary Louise (Jim) McClung of Winfield, Kansas; 6 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; his constant and loving companion of 15 years, Judy Davis; his lifelong friend, Joyce Mills; and Judy's 2 daughters, 8 grandchildren,and 4 great-grandchildren who considered Jim their family.  He is preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Helen Hawkins; his wife of 53 years, Loweta (Bell) Hawkins; his daughter, Debra Daugherty who passed away in 2010; and his lifelong friend, H.D. Mills.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at First Baptist Church in  Pryor, Oklahoma with Dr. Mike Cox officiating.  Burial will follow at Graham Memorial Cemetery with J.J. Daugherty, Trina Taylor, Breanoh Lafayette-Brooks, Joshua Daugherty, Sarah Rodriguez, and Shea McVea serving as casket bearers.  Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2022 at Shipman's Funeral Home. in Pryor, Oklahoma from 6:00 p.m. to 8;00 p.m.  The family asks that memorial contributions be made to the First Baptist Church, 601 E.
