David Alonzo Nigh, son of Charles M. and Rosa E. J. Nigh, was born January 1, 1894, in Union Center Township, Elk County, Kansas.  He grew to manhood in this community and early in life became a member of the Baptist church of Howard. He was a studious and industrious boy, was a faithful attendant at school, and graduated from Howard High School.  He enlisted in the U. S. Army for the World War, March 18, 1918, at Howard.  Received his honorable discharge Dec. 13, 1918.

He was united in marriage with Miss Louisa Butt of Howard, Dec. 24, 1919 and to this union were born three children: Geneva Marie, age __(unreadable), David Elmer, age 22 months, and Bonnie Lucille, age 8 months.

He was bereft of a mother's love and care at an early age, and was reared by his grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Charles Casey of Union Center.  His grandfather departed this life in September 1923, but the aged grandmother, Mrs. Charles Casey, survives, and mourns his death with more than a mother's love and sorrow.  David is survived by his faithful young wife and the three little children, but also by his aged grandmother, one brother, Norval C. Nigh of Wichita; two half brothers, Geo. F. of Union Center; Lewis of Redfield, Kas; one half -sister, Dorothy May of Redfield; his father and step-mother, C. M. Nigh of Redfield, besides uncles, niece and other relatives. One brother died in infancy.

Funeral services were held at the First Baptist church, Howard, Tuesday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock.  Rev. Hoopingarner of the M. E. Church delivered the discourse, Rev. Bayles, pastor of the Baptist church having charge of the services.  Carter-Rader Post conrades conducted the burial services, and the attendance at both the church and cemetery was very large.  Burial took place at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas.
