Horace Hubert "Bud" McNown was born June 22, 1926 to Glen Adelbert and Edna Mae (McAlister) McNown in the Belknap Community near Moline, Kansas.  He passed away on October 8, 2021 in Wichita, Kansas at the age of 95.

When Horace was a youngster, he went hunting with a relative who referred to him as "my buddy".  From that day forward, Horace went by Buddy until he graduated from high school.  He graduated from Moline High School in Moline, Kansas with the Class of 1944.  He enlisted in the United States Army in November 1944.  After he completed his basic training, he was stationed in Germany.  He was honorably discharged in August 1946 and then returned to Moline.

After his return to Moline, Bud got reacquainted with Mildred Clubine.  They were married on March 8, 1947 in Sedan, Kansas.  They moved to Arkansas City, Kansas where Bud worked in a meat packing plant.  While they lived in Arkansas City, two children were born, Linda and Larry.  The family returned to Moline where Bud worked at the Moline Rock Quarry.  In 1955, they moved to El Dorado, Kansas where Bud worked at the Skelly Refinery until he retired in 1985.

After retirement, Bud was a driver for Meals on Wheels five days a week.  He was a perfectionist doing handyman work.  His motto was, "If you're going to do the job, you do it right".  Bud was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in El Dorado for many years.  He served on many committees in the church.  Being a trustee for many years was his most rewarding job for the church.  Bud was a devoted caregiver to Mildred.  He was a very quiet, humble man.  Colossians 3:12.

Bud is survived by his children, Linda Clark and Larry (Liz) McNown; his grandchildren, Stephanie (Mike) Creeden of Savannah, Georgia, Matthew (Melissa) Clark of Overland Park, Kansas, and Mark (Alia) McNown of Syracuse, Kansas; and great-grandchildren, Cole, Reese, and Grey Creeden, Addie and Cate Clark, and Nyla and Cora McNown.  He is preceded in death by his wife, Mildred; his parents; and his two brothers.

A graveside service was held at Sunset Lawns Cemetery in El Dorado, Kansas on October 15, 2021.  Online guestbook is available at www.carlsonkirbymorris.com.  Memorials may be made to Meals on Wheels and can be sent to the funeral home.  Carlson Funeral Home, 200 S.
