Jake Lloyd Schoenhals of Piedmont, Kansas passed away unexpectedly in his sleep at his home on July 3, 2021 at the age of 83.  He was born on July 27, 1937 in Shattuck, Oklahoma, the son of Henry George "H.G." and Emelia "Millie" (Hanshu) Schoenhals.

Jake was raised on a farm near Darrouzett, Texas and graduated from Darrouzett High School with the Class of 1955.  After graduation, joined the United States Army, serving his country with honor and dignity.

On May 21, 1960, Jake was united in marriage to Mavis "Nadine" Schoenhals in Derby, Kansas.  They made their home in Mulvane, Kansas for a year and then moved to Haysville, Kansas.  To this union two children were born.  Jake worked several different jobs for Vulcan Chemical.  In the early 2000s, he and Nadine began splitting their time between Wichita and Piedmont.  They built their home on the family ranch near Piedmont, Kansas in 2004.

Jake loved living in the Flint Hills and felt like one of the luckiest men alive when he looked out his kitchen window.  He will be remembered for his generosity and his dedication to helping other people.  He loved ranching and he loved living in Greenwood County.  During their retirement, he and Nadine had many pets that they loved sharing their time with.  Nadine preceded him in death on May 4, 2020.

Jake was a member of the Piedmont United Methodist Church and a past member of the Haysvile United Methodist Church.  He also served on Rural Water District #1 Board and was a member of the Midian Shrine, the Masons, and Greenwood County Cattlemen's Association.

Jake is survived by his children, Cindy (Dick) Liptak  and Kevin Schoenhals, all of Wichita, Kansas; three grandchildren, Kristen (Dave) Johnston, Micaela Munday, and Matthew Munday; one great-grandchildren, Adelyn Johnston; and four siblings, Ella Willard of Wichita, Kasnas, Bonnie Green of Wichita, Kansas, Vernon Schoenhals of Follett, Texas, and Jean Long of Wichita, Kansas.  He was preceded in death by his parnets; his wife; and two siblings, Harry (Agnes) Schoenhals and Lela (Oscar) Borth.

Funeral services for Jake and Nadine were held on July 10, 2021 at Koup Family Funeral Home in Eureka, Kansas with Pastor Kevin Lawrence of the Climax United Methodist Church officiating.  Cremation followed the service, and inurnment will take place at a later date at Piedmont Cemetery.  The family has requested that memorials be made to the Catacombs Youth Ministry.  Contributions may be sent in care of Koup Family Funeral Home, P.O.
