Florence "Irene" Wilson-Scheuerman, age 94, of Winfield, Kansas, went to be with our Lord on June 13, 2021 at Cumbernauld Village in Winfield.  She was born April 9, 1927 to Roy and Winifred (Eckert) Edgington on the family farm north and west of Moline, Kansas. 

Irene attended the first eight grades at Star School and then attended Moline High School.  After graduating in 1945, she went to Emporia Teacher's College for the summer session and then taught at Belknap School for the 1945-1946 term .  She took a state exam and taught two more years in the Grenola second grade.  She then worked briefly for Aetna Insurance Company in Wichita, Kansas.

Irene then returned home to Elk County and was married on Valentine's Day of 1949 to John G. "Jack" Wilson at the home of her parents in Moline.  Following a brief honeymoon, they settled in Moline where Jack was the postmaster.  To this union were born three sons, John G. Jr., James Michael "Mike", and Eric Lynn "Rick".  Irene and Jack were married for nearly 31 years when Jack suddenly died from a heart attack.

In 1967, Irene returnerd to part-time work at the Moline Advance, the local newspaper.  She later became the managing editor of the Elk County Reporter in Moline, holding that position for ten years.  She then worked for the Kansas Social and Rehabilitation Services as a homemaker supervisor for Elk, Chautauqua, and part of Cowley counties for five years.

Irene leaves to mourn her passing her husband, Virgil Scheuerman; her children, John and Theresa Wilson of Sedan, Kansas and Mike and Diana Wilson of Moline, Kansas; 7 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; her sister-in-law, Marlene Edgington; and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.  She is preceded in death by her first husband, John "Jack" Wilson Sr., her parents, Roy and Winifred Edgington; her son, Rick Wilson; her sister, Phyllis Pollard; her brother, Jim Edgington; and her brother-in-law, Glenn Pollard.

Graveside services will be held on Friday, June 18, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the Moline Cemetery in Moline, Kansas.  No visitation is scheduled.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Winfield Trinity Lutheran School or the Moline High School Alumni Associations.  Donations can be left in care of the Shelley Family Funeral Home, 803 Loomis Street, Winfield, Kansas 67156 which has been entrusted with arrangements.
