Roy William "Bus" Dornes, 66, lifelong resident of Gridley, Kansas, passed away May 17, 2021 at Stormont-Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas.  He was born November 20, 1954 in Gridley, Kansas, the son of William E. "Bill" and Mildred A. "Midge" (Fletcher) Dornes.

Bus attended the Gridley schools and graduated from Gridley High School with the Class of 1972.  On July 9, 1977, he and Cheryl Ann Osborn were married at Elk Falls, Kansas.  They became the parents of a son, Cory. 

In his early years, Bus worked for the family business operating a bulldozer.  In 1985, he went to work for the Coffey County Road and Bridge Department and was employed there until his retirement in 2018.  He loved being outdoors and enjoyed hunting and fishing and his dogs.  He loved the time he spent with his grandchildren.

Bus leaves Cheryl, his wife of more than 43 years; his son, Cory William Dornes and his wife, Elizabeth of Gridley, Kansas; three granddaughters, Delilah, Delaney, and Delaura Dornes; a sister, Deborah McBride of Salina, Kansas; several nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.  He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Susan Pulliam and Linda Dornes.

Cremation is planned.  Memorial services will be held at 10:30  a.m. on Monday, May 24, 2021 at Jones Funeral Home in Burlington, Kansas.  Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association and may be sent in care of Jones Funeral Home, 801 Garrettson Street, Burlington, KS 66839 which has been entrusted with arrangements.

Bus Dornes is the husband of the former Cheryl Osborn of Elk Falls, Kansas.  She is the daughter of the late Neal and Phyllis Osborn.
