Evelyn Jean Passauer, age 99, of Independence, Kansas, passed away at Montgomery Place in Independence, on May 16, 2021.  She was born on September 13, 1921 in Piedmont, Kansas to Fred and Hazel (Hasty) Rader.

Evelyn grew up in Piedmont, graduating from Piedmont High School in 1939.  While in school, she enjoyed playing basketball.  She married Clement Russell Hammer in Ponca City, Oklahoma in 1939.  They later divorced.  She then married June Passauer in Miami, Oklahoma in 1971.  He passed away in 1987.

Evelyn worked at Southwestern Bell in Howard, Kansas and Independence, Kansas for 27 years until retiring in 1979.  While at Southwestern Bell, she was awarded numerous awards for her excellence and perfect attendance.  After retirement, she just could not sit still. She began working as the manager of the Terrace Town House Apartments in 1992.  She continued this work until 2001. 

Evelyn was a member of the Communications Workers of American and the American Legion Auxiliary.  She loved to play Bingo and cards, especially Gin Rummy.  She also loved to tend to her garden and enjoy the beautiful flowers.

Evelyn's memory will carry on with her sons, Larry (Sue) Hammer of Coffeyville, Kansas, Fred (Patti) Hammer of Pittsburg, Kansas, and Allen (Gloria) Hammer of Independence, Kansas; daughters, Gyda (Jim) Bauman of Neodesha, Kansas, Judy Lantz of Independence, Kansas, and Linda (Don) Graves of Hutchinson, Kansas; her sister, Shirley Winn of Howard, Kansas; three stepsons; one stepdaughter; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.  She is preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hazel Rader; her husbands, Clement Hammer and June Passasuer; two infant sons, Dennis and David Hammer; two steps sons; brothers, Robert Rader, Bill Rader, and J. L. Rader; sisters, Marie Scott and Guida Rader; and grandson, Steven Hammer.

The family will greet friend at the visitation on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Potts Chapel in Independence, Kansas.  Graveside services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Elk City, Kansas on Thursday, May 20, 2021 at 2:00 p.m.  Memorial contributions can be left in Evelyn's name to Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice.  To leave the family a special message of condolence, please visit www.pottsfuneralhome.com.  Services have been entrusted to Potts Chapel, 122 S.
