Helen Jean Heyen, age 70, of Howard, Kansas, passed away on August 4, 2020 at her home surrounded by loved ones.  She was born August 21, 1949 in Dickson, Tennessee to Plummer and Carrie (Sensing) Jones.

Helen grew up in Tennessee alongside nine siblings.  After graduating school, she lived in several places including Texas, South Carolina, and in 2005 moved to Howard, Kansas.  She worked for numerous corporations throughout her life including a mortgage company that had to hire four people to replace her after she was forced to stop working due to her health.

Helen will be remembered as a very strong, loving woman.  She was a dedicated mother and grandmother and was always there to help her family, no matter the circumstance.  If she knew you needed help, she was there whether you knew her personally or not.  She was a member of the Howard Independence Baptist Church.

Helen is survived by her daughter, Nancee Braxton of Howard, Kansas; her son, Michael VanBuren of Florida; 13 grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; sisters, Patricia Jackson, Marie D'Arc, Linda Potts, and Jenny Duke; and brothers, Harris McErnie and Billy Walker.  She was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Mary Fairoloth, Jeanette Jones, and Margie Jones.

Per Helen's wishes, cremation has been requested with no services planned.  Memorial contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.  Arrangements have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.
