Robert O. "Bob" Crowell, 88, of Oswego, Kansas, passed away on February 18, 2020 at his home.  He was born on August 19, 1931 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Olin S. and Mary E. (Tamm) Crowell.

As a child, Bob moved with his family to Humboldt, South Dakota.  He graduated from high school there in 1949.  He worked for the local newspaper before attending South Dakota State College.  He then moved to Mullville, Iowa and worked for the newspaper there.  In 1952, he joined the United States Army and served in Korea.  Following his discharge, he lived in Longton, Kansas and later in Garnett, Kansas.  On April 11, 1955, Bob and Beverly C. Moore were married in Moline, Kansas.  They moved to Chetopa, Kansas in 1965.  Together they raised five children and co-owned five newspapers, The Chetopa Advance, The Edna Sun, The Mound Valley Times, The Altamont Journal, and Oswego-Independent Observer.  In 1998, they retired.

Bob enjoyed golfing and fishing and was a member of Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego, Kansas.

Survivors include his son, David (Janet) Crowell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; four daughters, Theresa (Bart) Kelly of Bonner Springs, Kansas, Mary (Roy) Karstetter of Joplin, Missouri, Cathy Campbell of Oswego, Kansas, and Patty (Ron) Simmons of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren, Grant and Sadie Heithaus, Jessie Kelly, Cody and Lindsey Buntin, Russell and Kelsey Stone, Kyle and Jess Simmons, Patrick and Amanda Crowell, Seth Campbell, Kate Campbell, Rick and Many Karstetter, and Brandon and Angela Buergin; great-grandchildren, Sophia Heithaus, Chance Crowell, Kyton Crowell, Bexlieigh Crowell, Jace Buntin, Bella Buntin, Jensen Stone, Jax Stone, Coston Karstetter, James, Bo and Paige Zimmerman, Brayden Wadino, and Gage Buergin; one great-great-grandchild, Kash Zimmerman; one brother, John Crowell of St. Paul, Minnesota; and one sister, Janet Lacey of Flagstaff, Arizona.    Preceding Bob in death was his wife, Bev on March 8, 2017; his parents, Olin and Mary Crowell; his brother, Charles Crowell; his sister, Vera Ferry; and his granddaughters, Emilee Simmons and Jennifer Crowell.

Funeral Mass was held on February 21, 2020 at Mother of God Catholic Church in Oswego, Kansas.  Burial followed at St. Rose  Cemetery in Chetopa, Kansas.  Memorials may be made in the name of St. Rose Cemetery.  Donations may be left with or mailed to Forbes-Hoffman Funeral Home, P.O. Box 374, Parsons, Kansas 67357 which was in charge of arrangements.
