Barbara Lee Greenwood, age 87, of Howard, Kansas, passed away February 3, 2020 at the Greenwood County Hospital in Eureka, Kansas.  She was born on June 26, 1932 in rural Elk County near Piedmont, Kansas to James "Jim" and Roberta (Sloan) Carter.

Barbara attended school in Howard, Kansas and graduated from Howard High School in 1950.  On September 20, 1953, she was united in marriage to Robert Eugene "Bob" Greenwood.  They were married for 56 years until his passing in 2010.

Barbara was a servant of people.  It began early in life while she worked at the local drug store during high school and was evident throughout her life.  She was very active in the Howard United Methodist Church where she loved playing the piano and being a part of the choir and while working in different offices in the courthouse and the schools.  Her love of people never changed, and Bob used to joke with her and say he couldn't take her anywhere because no matter where they went or how far away from home they were, she always seemed to know someone there.

Barbara was also very active in the American Legion Auxiliary in Howard for 64 years, serving as treasurer for many of those years.  One of her favorite things to do was play pinochle, and she and Bob enjoyed playing cards with a groups of friends for many years.

Barbara is survived by her sons, Rob (Gina) Greenwood of Howard, Kansas, Steve (Rochelle) Greenwood of Saint Joseph, Missouri, and David Greenwood of Overland Park, Kansas; her sister, Edith Oakes of Clarksville, Tennessee; her grandchildren, Alycen, River (Chrystina), Raven (Lucky), Rain, Sarah, Austin (Heather) Jonah, Gage, and Gracie; and her great-grandchildren, Leia and Dorian.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bob; her brothers, Robert Carter and Clifford Carter; and her brother-in-law, Larry Oakes.

Visitation will be held at Countryside Funeral Home in Howard, Kansas on Thursday, February 6, 2020 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.  Funeral service will be Friday, February 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m., also at the funeral home.  Burial will take place at Grace Lawn Cemetery in Howard, Kansas.  Memorials are suggested to the Howard United Methodist Church or Carter-Rader Post #149 American Legion Auxiliary and can be mailed to or left with the funeral home.  Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349 has been entrusted with arrangements.
