Janice Irene Wells of El Dorado, Kansas and formerly of Piedmont, Kansas, passed away January 4, 2020 at LakePoint Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of El Dorado at the age of 78.  She was born August 28, 1941 in Jefferson City, Missouri, the daughter of Willis and Ruby (Harbour) Atherton.

Janice was raised in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from Wichita West High School with the Class of 1959.  Following graduation, she attended Wichita State University.  She soon married and moved frequently, working several jobs.  She was blessed with three children.  In 1985, Janice and her children settled in Piedmont, Kansas where she went to work for Ervin's Convenience Store and eventually met Lee Riggs who was the love of her life. Janice loved her children and grandchildren, her animals, auctions, and collecting antiques.

Janice is survived by her three children, Jeffrey Allen (Patty) Wells of Killeen, Texas, Jenifer Anne VanHorn of Wichita, Kansas, and Josh Evan (Larissa) Wells of Eureka, Kansas; eleven grandchildren, Holly VanHorn, Michael Wells, Tori VanHorn, Alyssa Wells, Kimberly Betts, Traeveor McPherson, Tanner Wells, Taylor Wells, Tyler Wells, Tyrel Wells, and Trayce Wells; two great-grandchildren, Rhylie and Raylan Wells; and her significant other, Lee Rigs.  She was preceded in death by her parents.

Graveside service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. at Farm Ridge Cemetery, 6200 C. Road, Elk City, Kansas with Mr. Craig Olson of Eureka, Kansas officiating.  Visitation hours are set from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at Koup Family Funeral Home, 121 N.
