Larry Joe Martin, age 80, of Howard, Kansas, passed away December 12, 2019 at Eureka Nursing Center in Eureka, Kansas.  He was born September 2, 1939 in Okeene, Oklahoma to Edward and Rebecca (Bierig) Martin.

Larry grew up alongside eight siblings, graduating from Okeene High School in the Class of 1958.  He spent two years serving in the United States Army from 1962 to 1964.  On May 22, 1987, Larry married Saundra Sue Rhudy in Wichita, Kansas after dating several years.  They made their home in Wichita until 2017 when they moved to Howard, Kansas.

Larry was a bit of a workaholic as he would run a printing press during the day and then crop farm in the evenings, growing wheat and soybeans.  After retiring from the printing company, he farmed fulltime.  He liked to hunt deer and quail, set trout lines, and gig frogs.  Larry loved spending time with the buddies he had met over the years at the local watering hole just a couple of blocks from their home in Wichita.  He never forgot them, and even after moving to Howard and his failing health, Sue made several trips taking Larry back to Wichita so he could continue seeing his buddies there.  Being from Oklahoma, Larry was also an avid OU Sooner fan.

Larry is survived by his wife, Sue of the home; his son, Justin (Heidi) Long of Garland, Texas; stepsons, Todd (Cynthia) Calvin of Howard, Kansas, Brian (Cristen) Calvin of Severy, Kansas, and Mark (Darlene) Putnam of Stillwell, Oklahoma; stepdaughters, Angela (Butch) Bearden of Howard, Kansas, Diana (David) Fusion of Stillwell, Oklahoma, and Mill Poindexter of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma; brother, Jack Martin of Wichita, Kansas; sister, Wanda Bisel of Ashland, Kansas; 22 grandchildren; and 24 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his sisters, Irene and Bonnie; and his brothers, Archie, Lester, Clay, and Lonnie.  Cremation has been requested, and the family will hold a Celebration of Life service at a later date.

Memorials in Larry's name can be made to the Parkinson's Foundation and can be left with or mailed to the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349,

My sympathy to each of you.  Memories will carry you through.
