Niels Rodney Berthelsen passed away November 18, 2019 at his home in Atlanta, Georgia.  He was born in Sedan, Kansas on November 5, 1952 and lived his early years in Howard, Kansas where his father, Dr. Harlan Berthelsen, practiced medicine.

Rodney graduated from Rock Valley High School in Rock Valley, Iowa and received a Bachelor's degree from Northwestern College in Orange City, Iowa.  He earned a Master's Degree from South Dakota State University in Brookings, South Dakota.  He taught Sociology at Lamar University in Port Arthur, Texas and retired to Atlanta, Georgia.

Rodney is survived by a sister, Rebecca Olmstead of Wheaton, Maryland; a nephew, Thomas (Nicole) Olmstead; and two great-nieces, Avery and Darcy. 

Burial services will be held at a later date at the Hurley Cemetery in Hurley, South Dakota.
