Richard "Dutch" Allen, age 83, of Moline, Kansas, passed away May 9, 2019 at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice in Wichita, Kansas.  He was born January 4, 1936 in Dennis, Kansas to Carl and Minnie (Reardon) Allen, growing up with six brothers and two sisters.

Richard graduated from Parsons High School in 1954.  In August 1953, he married Norma Jean Wilkinson, and they had four children:  Cynthi, Deborah, Diana, and Jeffrey.  They later divorced.  In June 1969, he married Evelyn Sherrick, and they had three children:  Chad, Karla, and Lori.  Richard and Evelyn were married until her passing in 2010.

Richard lived many places around Kansas working as a pipe fitter until he settled in Moline, Kansas in 1987.  He was a storyteller and would tell stories to anyone that would listen.  He was also a little ornery and would bet anyone he could stand on his head longer than they could, knowing that he could easily beat them.

Richard loved to garden, enlisting all of his kids to help him tend to the weeds and bugs as his gardens were always very large.  He was an avid reader, reading every Zane Grey book ever written.  He raised horses in his younger years and loved horse racing.  His favorite was the Kentucky Derby.

Richard is survived by his children, Jeffrey (Maggie) Allen of Lafayette, Colorado, Chad (Angela) Allen of Moline, Kansas, Cynthia (Adam) Lopez of Independence, Kansas, Deborah Eastman, of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Diana (Bob) Wintle of Parsons, Kansas, Karla (Steve) Julian of Moline, Kansas, and Lori (John) Talley of Eureka, Kansas; 17 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren with two more joining the family soon, and a brother, Don Allen of Monticello, Colorado.  He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Evelyn; his granddaughter, Megan Wintle; his brothers, Kenley, Charles, Dean,Stanley, and Darrel; and his sisters, Evelyn McDowell and Lillian McDowell.

Visitation will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Countryside Funeral Home, 206 E. Washington, Howard, Kansas 67349.  Graveside service will be held on Monday, May 13, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. at the Moline City Cemetery in Moline, Kansas.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the Moline Library and may be mailed to or left with the funeral home.  Services have been entrusted to Countryside Funeral Home of Howard, Kansas.
